2016 was a big year for the team. For the first time since 2011 we had a team together for the Drift Union Invitational!
From 2012 until this year I have been putting misfit teams together to compete in this event. So this was very exciting!
Marc has been the captain of this team since before I (Gaelen) can remember and when he made the jump from the old trusty SR20 to his crazy built 2JZ there were inherent issues along the way that kept him from having any fun for a few years.
Ian Fournier was the ringer for this season, bringing in so much excitement , joy and experience to all the team tandem events! Going from the S/C Vk56 back to the RB25 has really put a giant smile on his face. Turbos will do that!
This was the second event we had all driven together, FinalBout SSW being the first, so we had a lot to learn about each other still and get into the swing of things.
So this year started off with Shawn Browne (organizer) with a giant smile on his face at the very first drivers meeting. If you know Shawn at all you know that this usually means trouble as he’s giddy with excitement.
He handed out these booklets with ‘Challenges’ for the weekend. If you want to check out some of the challenges follow #dui16champs on social media.
We’ve been doing this for a few years now and bringing tents to keep out of the heat seems to be our specialty! Big thanks to Northwest Nissans for handling our tent situation.
The team tandem portion of the event is something that everyone seems to come for. There is a cash prize every year and of course….. we sucked. Not sure what happened but we went from running some solid runs to being scattered and off line for our 3 runs just out of pure dumb luck!
Thankfully the best part about this event is the rest of the weekend. Hop in trains with anyone and everyone and just have a blast!
Well I think I can just show you all the pictures and you guys will get the idea!
